What is going on?

Two critical vulnerabilities have been discovered in PHP. They could allow malicious parties to take over a website or run harmful code remotely. Most websites worldwide use PHP, including many other companies and government services.

The PHP developers have announced a security update, scheduled for 21 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC. Until it is available, temporary measures do not offer sufficient protection. Only the update provides real security. CERT-EU, the cybersecurity service for the EU institutions, advises taking affected internet-facing applications offline until a fix is available.
